Another Day

Sue is now going every day to the IPOP (place for outpatients). Today was only about 4 hours. Yesterday it was closer to 6. She shows up at 8:30am and finds out what they will be giving her. This will continue for awhile.

We also now have a schedule for taking temperature, checking glucose levels (blood sugar), and taking medicine.

Pretty mild day. Not much to report (which is actually a good thing).

Tornado, Birthday and Balloons

Last birthday was much more fun. Sue was tired, but did eat some food and watched a little television. One of the things on t.v. was the tornado warning: apparently, a tornado appeared around 30 miles away. And there was a lot of thunder and lightning.

Also lots of cards, stuffed animals, DVDs, and balloons showed up. Sue appreciated all of them.

Sleepy now. Good night.

Sleeping through the Nausea

It has been a heavy week of chemo. And a bit of nausea. The anti-nausea drugs help, but put Sue to sleep. She has been sleeping most of the afternoon and evening. Next week there wont be more chemo (with one exception-Gleevec). We are hoping and assuming it will be easier.

The apartment is still very nice, cable modem, great view, now we have stocked it with food. Rumors that balloons are on there way tomorrow. I think Sue will be putting cards back up on the wall (all the cards had been up on the hospital room wall.

Discharged from the Hospital

Today there was a lot of moving going on. Sue was discharged from the hospital. She will have to go pretty much every day to the outpatient clinic to get chemo (essentially a full day of work). This will go on for about two months probably except short periods for when she has to go back in for tougher chemo. She is doing ok, now untethered (no longer connected to saline solution, etc intravenously).

Sue's folks and I moved out of the McElderry townhouse. All of us moved into a wonderful apartment overlooking Baltimore's harbor. You can see a view in the photo album. I will have more photos soon.

Birthday Blog

Hmmmm. A birthday blog? Well, I am hoping that folks will add their birthday greetings here. We will have moved into an apartment near the hospital, but will not be having a big party. I hope to have a party when Sue is over her initial hospitalizations. So go for it. Please feel free to call too.

Birthday and a Beginning

Hello. Daniel here. This site is a birthday present for my wife. Unlike most presents that focus on the recipient, this one is focused on friends and family. As most site visitors already know, Sue has leukemia. Specifically she has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) with the Philadelphia chromosonal defect. She and I will try and keep friends up to date with what is going on. We will avoid including contact information like postal, email addresses, and phone numbers and we do not recommend including information that you do not want to be made public. However, we do hope you use the site and feel free to add comments. If you have more substantial additions for the site (like photos, audio, etc.) please contact me.
