In an odd way, good news can spawn worries. For the last couple of weeks the weakness that accompanies recovery from chemotherapy and withdrawal from steroids at amounts that would scare even baseball players has concerned Sue. Previously, weakness and nausea when other things are relatively ok indicated dehydration or anemia (time for IV saline or red blood). But after two jaunts to Hopkins confirmed that Sue is actually doing better, it is clear the tiredness is just an adrenal system that is taking awhile to get back to normal and a bit of the recovery that the steroids masked.
Sue has just ended her secondary drug treatment for Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD). Over the next two weeks we will be back up to Hopkins four times to just make sure the GVHD does not flare up. Sue has done very well with her treatment, but the doctor wants to be very cautious.
Next week we will also stay for a day in Baltimore for the lumbar puncture test/treatment which has been rescheduled twice.
