Sue continued getting elevated temperatures and even high fevers. After spending a day in an emergency room with a high fever and no apparent cause, Sue's doctor decided to restage Sue. In other words, do a whole set of tests to confirm that the leukemia was not the cause, before working on other possible causes like infection or, unlikely, the drug she is on.
In that it takes awhile under the best of circumstances to schedule these tests in a non-emergency, Sue and I decided to go on the vacation we had already booked.
Sue and I had a great time in Destin, Floriday. And Sue was feeling good for the days in the sun and surf. And it was great to spend time with the family.
When we got back, we learned that the tests had still not been scheduled. And then it was going to be yet another week waiting for the tests. And, while waiting, Sue came down with a cold with a mean sore throat. And being the trooper, Sue went ahead with about seven hours of test, all packed into one day. And since the last test was a full body PET scan, Sue could not have anything but plain water most of the day. And no way to relieve the sore throat till the end of the day.
Well, today, a week or so later, we received the very last electronic notice of the tests. And all were totally good. Between a bone marrow biopsy, brain MRI and full body PET scan, nothing showed up at all.
Great news, and although nothing was expected, it is still wonderful to get the confirmation. And the elevated temperatures seem less frequent and seem more associated with infections, like the cold which caused a passing high fever. Perhaps, the drug is acting to raise minor temps to higher, opposite of Tylenol, or something. So for now we will just monitor.
It has been about a year of taking the new drug with no more spinal chemo treatments.
