Just as the gloom of winter is shaking out, these past few months have been about the most difficult for Sue, but it may be getting a bit better. Since Sue had a drug interaction last August, which then may have led to the brain tumor coming back, things have been a bit rocky. After high dose chemo in December, four immunotherapy treatments, proton beam radiation therapy for three weeks in January, and six weeks of waiting before Sue could get an MRI that would show how successful the treatments were... we took a trip to Florida to see her folks.
For most the of the week in Florida, it was wonderful, some sun and beach, time to rest and be with family. But near the end of the week, Sue came down with a serious fever. The emergency room said Sue needed to be admitted to the hospital. They were worried about an infection. I became worried about a drug interaction again. Sue was very ill and even after four days of treatment and being allowed to leave and come back to DC, Sue has been very fatigued and not fully recovered.
So going back to Johns Hopkins on Friday for the MRI and check up was fraught with worry. Finally at 4pm we got to hear the results, as good as could be hoped for, the tumor had shrunk down considerably and that the wonder drug and immunotherapy would be used to keep everything in check going forward. And despite the slow recovery, Sue’s other lab results were very good. Sue will go back next Friday to just make sure the recovery is going well (and we do not know what caused it).
As we enjoy the warming temps and coming spring, we also want to thank the many people who reached out and even came to visit and helped in a myriad of ways. For Sue’s work for being so supportive and reduced the anxiety enormously. Love and peace to all.
